Warmer weather always brings with it that old “back to school” feeling. No matter how long you´ve been out, it never hurts to learn something new. Perhaps you could use a top-up of your current education – getting an additional or advanced degree, or maybe you are looking to change career directions. Prague has many institutions of higher learning that may assist you in your career preparation and goals.
There are many schools that offer Master of Business Administration degrees often in partnership with a US university. Many of these schools have part-time or weekend courses, perfect for the working professional.CMC Graduate School and De Paul University (www.cmc.cz) have a weekend classes, 20 month program. You can choose a general MBA or one with a concentration in either IT/IS or Real Estate. CMC also offers an Executive MBA in conjunction with the Thunderbird School of Global Management. This is targeted to senior level management professionals. Another Executive MBA program offered locally is through the University of Pittsburgh in conjunction with the US Business School Praha (www.usbsp.com.) USBSP also offers a range of mini-MBA programs with concentrations in such areas as Finance, Investment and Accounting; Risk Management and Marketing. The Institute for Industrial and Financial Management (www.ipfm.cz) offers a MBA in both English and German. It´s a part-time program that takes 18 months. The Masaryk Institute of Advanced Studies (www.muvs.cvut.cz) has an MBA program and offers a Masters of Science in Human Resources Management. CERGE-EI (www.cerge-ei.cz) is a joint program between Charles University and the Academy of Sciences. They offer a PhD in Economics.
If you aren´t to the MBA level yet, no worries there are lots of places to begin. Prague College(www.praguecollege.cz) is a friendly place offering a mix of undergraduate degrees and continuing education programs. You can get a Bachelor´s degree in International Business Management or they offer an International Business Diploma, Professional Diploma in Marketing & PR as well as programs in IT and Computing, Graphic Design and Interactive Media. Their semester schedule is very flexible, with new classes beginning in January, October and April. Anglo American University (www.aauni.edu) has a range of Bachelor´s programs in fields like the humanities, business, law and international relations. Their MBA is offered in partnership with Chapman University. They also have Master´s programs in Public Policy, Humanities, and International Relations and Diplomacy. The University of New York Prague (www.unyp.cz) has a broad range of undergraduate and graduate degrees, including an MBA. Their undergraduate programs include Business Administration, Communication, International Economic Relations, Psychology and English Language and Literature. Their MBA´s include specializations in Management, Marketing, Banking, Human Resources, Information Systems, Tourism Management plus an on-line MBA. In addition to an MBA, UNYP also offers a Master´s in Professional Communication and Public Relations.
The VSO College of Business in Prague (www.vso-praha.edu) offers Bachelor´s and Master´s degrees in the tourism industry. The Private College of Economic Studies (www.svses.cz) offers two undergraduate study programs; one in Economics and Management, the second in Protection and Safety of Organizations. The Institute of Finance and Administration (www.vsfs.cz) offers a BS in Business Administration in conjunction with City University of Seattle as well as an MBA in either general or financial management, also in conjunction with City University of Seattle. The University of Northern Virginia Prague (www.unva.cz) offers Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as well as MBA´s in Finance, General Management, Marketing and Project Management.
If you need to brush up on your computer skills, A-B Spektrum (www.abspektrum.cz) may be able to help. They offer basic training in the Windows operating system as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access. You can go to them, or they´ll come to you and they offer both group and individual classes.
Are you looking for some more artistic training? The Academy of Performing Arts (www.amu.cz) has three faculties; the Film and TV School, Music Faculty and Theatre Faculty, all of which offer Bachelor´s, Master´s and Doctorate degrees. Prague Film School (www.filmstudies.cz) has programs in Filmmaking, Animation, Documentary Film and Acting for Film. They have year, semester and summer only courses. The respectedTransitions Online (www.tol.cz) offers periodic week-long Journalism courses and Prague Yoga(www.pragueyoga.cz) offers a yoga teacher training and certificate program.
If you are a disciplined sort who can manage your time wisely, there are a ton of universities that now offer online courses and degrees. Check with your alma mater to see if they are offering any distance learning opportunities. You can work at your own pace, and the price may be cheaper as well. Valencia Community College (www.ed2go.com./vcc) has a wide variety of classes ranging from “studious:” Business Administration, Web and Computer Programming and Accounting to continuing education courses for teaching professionals and those in the health care industry. They also have a personal enrichment section with classes on subjects like how to research your family history or outdoor survival techniques.
